Kegels and MaXhosa Africa bring emerging talent to Paris Fashion Week
Julie Kegels and MaXhosa Africa opened Paris Fashion Week with collections built around gravity, cultural identity and intensive craft.
FashionNetwork reports that Paris Fashion Week began with Julie Kegels and MaXhosa Africa in focus. Kegels, showing for the third time and following her LVMH Prize win, presented her Spring/Summer 2027 collection at the Cité de la Musique. Inspired by the many meanings of falling, the range combined unconventional styling with lightweight organza, flat shapes and touches of turquoise, taupe and blue. The presentation ended with a standing ovation.
MaXhosa Africa made its first appearance on the official Paris schedule at the South African ambassador’s residence. Laduma Ngxokolo’s collection drew on Xhosa cultural patterns, colours and symbols, alongside intricate knitwear, wool dresses, woven bags, logo accessories and elaborate headwear. A performance by Sjava added a musical dimension. For business, the shows highlight the growing international visibility available to emerging labels and the value of a clearly defined design identity.
