John Galliano reworks Zara staples for a new high-street collection
British Vogue details Galliano’s Re{form} project, which transforms existing Zara garments into highly constructed designs.
John Galliano has developed a Zara collection by altering existing garments rather than designing every piece from the ground up. British Vogue reports that the project, titled Re{form} Zara Authored by the Couturier John Galliano, began after Galliano and Marta Ortega Pérez, Inditex’s board chair, developed a relationship following a 2022 Steven Meisel exhibition. The work took shape after Galliano left Maison Margiela in 2024.
The starting points included familiar Zara items such as a wool-blend coat, a slip dress and a cotton shirt. Galliano’s team cut, reshaped, reversed and enlarged them, moving pockets and changing proportions to create more dramatic silhouettes. One oversized shirt becomes a jacket with a trompe l’oeil leather effect, while other designs feature draped dresses, tulle, vivid colours and elaborate accessories.
The partnership places Galliano’s historical and couture-influenced approach within a high-street setting. British Vogue says the collection could introduce his work to customers who may not have previously been able to afford one of his designs, while giving Zara a collaboration centred on reconstruction and reuse.
